If you’ve successfully navigated all the way to the end of a Rule of Three weekly column, you may have noticed the gray box posted there, which includes a riff of some sort relating to the column you’ve just read, and a call to action to subscribe to Rule of Three, with a reminder that it is free to subscribe. As an example, this is the box that appeared at the bottom of last week’s column, entitled, “Hey, That Guy Owes Me a Favor.”:
We'd like to ask a favor of you right now - subscribe now to Rule of Three - simply type your email address below - it's free, man!
“Free” is a critical component of our business model. Consider this piece a reinforcement of that commitment: Rule of Three will always be free!
The overarching mission of Rule of Three, of course, is our intention to identify, document and share with you what we consider to be amusing, in accordance with Rule No. 3 (you know, the one about amusing yourself). Our never-ending quest for amusing topics takes us to such unlikely places as airports, Thanksgiving Day dinners and laundromats (alright, it’s been a very long time since I’ve been inside a laundromat, but you get the idea: humor ensues everywhere).
But we also see need all around us. The need to help others who face poverty, hunger and disease. That need is overwhelming. That need is why there are literally millions of nonprofit organizations worldwide, each attempting to provide assistance on various social service fronts.
It is that recognition which prompts us to establish a voluntary subscription fee structure, which will provide to you:
The ability to support the continued work of the Rule of Three team, which is nearing its fifth anniversary (50% of the subscription fee paid will be invested in those efforts).
A contribution made in your name to the nonprofit organization of your choice for the other 50% of the subscription fee paid.
An income tax deduction for that charitable contribution made in your name (a receipt will be emailed to you evidencing that contribution).
As indicated above, this subscription fee option is entirely voluntary, and Rule of Three will continue to be published, and provided to you, free of charge, each week. But I hope that you decide to join Rule of Three in this extremely modest effort to make a difference, by supporting the impactful contributions made by these nonprofit organizations; the need for funding has never been more critical.
We know that we don’t have to make the case for the positive impact yielded by the efforts of nonprofit organizations; perhaps you have already identified the organization to which you would like to direct your contribution. But, in the interest of reminding you why supporting Rule of Three is an excellent consumer buying decision, we leave you with links to three of our best-read columns:
Well, that’s our pitch - we hope you’ll consider joining our effort. But, if not, that’s okay too - Rule of Three will always be there for you.
So. . .subscribe now to Rule of Three - simply type your email address below - it's free, man! Unless you choose to join Rule of Three in its extremely modest effort to make a difference, by supporting the nonprofit organization of your choice (Note: Please email us at: ruleofthreebs@gmail.com, indicating the name of the organization to which you wish to contribute, and a website address for them).
I'll be interested to see how this works out!
