when we were kids on long drives from Chicago to Lake Superior my mother had a contest to see who could go the longest without peeing. Still a point of. pride with my siblings that I always won! As only girl with 5 brothers I never turned down the opportunity for bragging rights!
I love the one with the diving dog! We used to have a German Shepherd that LOVED to dive into our pool. She had to put her front paws out in front of her to slow herself down so she wouldn't bump into the far wall of the pool. She didn't care if we were around or not -- she still occupied herself running and diving in the pool. She would have been perfect for the diving dog competition because she was a natural.
Haha, I love the expression on the face of the guy holding the plate of hotdogs! He's either keen to eat one, or thinking, "OMG, these guys are craaaazy!"
That photo would be a great “Caption Contest” - my entry is, “I know this guy next to me just downed 76 of these things, but, without mustard, bright green relish, tomatoes, chopped onions, sport peppers, a pickle and celery salt, I just can’t. . .” (shoutout to the humble Chicago hot dog).
Why is it that all these bizarre contests are based in England? But, I love that the prize is cheese. And, you’re right, Jim McKay was the Saturday soundtrack for a lot of years.
"Battle Of The Network Stars" was superbly parodied on "SCTV" as "Battle Of The PBS Stars"- with Mr. Rogers boxing Julia Child!
I love that - I’ll have to locate that bit!
THAT SOUNDS REALLY FUNNY
It was- those guys were the best.

That is truly an impressive achievement, Liza.

OH THOSE HOTDOGS GROSS ME OUT!
NO MORE HOTDOGS!
C'mon, Gail - as a Chicagoan, you know that the Chicago hot dog rules!
You just had to say,”Off-beat competitions “ didn’t you. What a double entendre pervert you are!
I have no idea what you’re talking about. . .
Good one Bill. I would add “ Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake” been run sine 1826, so it at least has longevity going for it.
BTW Jim McKay was synonymous with Saturday afternoon’s.
