Great topic. I have often wondered why people write fiction or historical books. Writing about your family is an endless sea of material for columns, booklets, novels, movies, recommendations and even condemnations (real and contrived), as you pointed out. James Michner spent over 2 years using more than 300 sources to write “Hawaii” (per ChatGPT). In two years anyone could have a series of books based on holidays and birthdays alone and not need a single other reference.

Mike, I don’t think I’ve ever read Michener - the size of each novel was too daunting, perhaps. But, you’re right, truth is stranger than fiction, and families generate plenty of fodder - that’s good for columns like Rule of Three.

I know you don't want to let all the skeletons out but I think there is a great piece out there for you where you ask relatives what they'd say about you if you were nominated for a Cabinet position. You can have final cut, of course.

I’m much more comfortable making things up, than learning cold, hard facts. . .particularly about myself. But, I agree - it would be an interesting piece.
